Password Notification Release Notes

v1.2.0

November 4, 2026

New

  • Redesigned app. Settings and reports are now pages in a sidebar: Dashboard, Password policy and Activity log, then Active Directory, Email delivery, Message, Recipients and Schedule. The app follows the Windows light or dark theme.
  • Password expiry dashboard. Five cards show how many passwords expire today or tomorrow, within 7, 30 and 90 days, and how many never expire. Clicking a card lists those accounts, with search by name, logon name or email, and columns for department, days left, expiry date and when the password was last set.
  • Emails sent. The dashboard shows how many notification emails went out today and yesterday.
  • Accounts are stored locally. Each day the service reads all enabled accounts from Active Directory into a local database, and the dashboard reads from it, so it opens straight away and works even when a domain controller cannot be reached. The Schedule page shows when accounts were last read and has a Sync now button.
  • Fine-grained password policies. The Password policy page lists every fine-grained password policy with its precedence, maximum age, length, complexity, history, lockout and the users and groups it applies to. Reading them needs an account with Domain Admin rights.
  • Active Directory connection page. Add, edit, test and delete the domain the app connects to, with an optional domain controller and LDAPS (SSL).
  • Managed service accounts. Choose between connecting with a specific account, or as the account the service runs as, for a group managed service account (gMSA).
  • 30-day free trial. Everything works for 30 days. After that, without a license, email notifications pause and the rest of the app keeps working.

Improved

  • Correct expiry dates for fine-grained policies. Expiry dates now come from the date Active Directory works out for each account, so users under a fine-grained password policy get warned on the right day instead of by the domain default.
  • Accounts are read even with emails off. At the scheduled time each day the service reads Active Directory whether or not email notifications are on, so the dashboard stays current. Emails are sent only when notifications are switched on. Notifications are off on a new install.
  • Clearer Schedule page. The page now reads top to bottom: the daily run time and next run, then email notifications and the days before expiry to warn on. Warnings that are switched off are dimmed.
  • Fewer retries after a failure. If Active Directory or the mail server cannot be reached, the service tries again after 15 minutes instead of every minute.
  • License expiry is enforced by the service. Once a subscription's end date passes, email notifications pause even if nobody opens the app.
  • Startup errors are reported. If the app cannot start, it now shows the reason and writes it to the activity log instead of closing without a message.
  • New icon.

Fixed

  • Text box hints. The typing cursor no longer appears on top of the grey hint text in empty boxes.
