Update Country Code for Active Directory Users

This guide shows you how to bulk update the country code attributes for users in Active Directory.

Three attributes, not one

Changing the Country/region setting on a user account in Active Directory actually updates three attributes. To bulk update the country, you have to set all three for each user.

Attribute What it is Example
c Country/region name, ISO 3166 alpha-2 code. Two letters. US
co Country/region display name. The full, human-readable name. United States
countryCode Numeric country code, based on ISO 3166-1 numeric. 840

How to bulk update countryCode for AD users

  1. Get your country code values from the table below.
  2. Open the Update Users tool and download the provided CSV template. The c, co and countryCode columns are already in the template, so just add the users and the values you want set.
  3. Back in the Update Users tool, select your CSV file and click Run.

To confirm the update, run the All Users report with the c, co and countryCode columns included.
